Frequently asked questions
Independent Groomers & New Structure
Are your groomers employees or independent contractors?
All groomers at Tidy Tails work as independent professionals. Each manages their own bookings and grooming approach while sharing our studio and our gentle, dog-centered values.
What changed at Tidy Tails with the new structure?
We now operate as a boutique grooming hub. Each groomer works independently, manages their own schedule, and brings their own strengths — all within the same consistent, calm Tidy Tails space clients already know and love. The atmosphere and care philosophy remain the same.
Why am I seeing different groomers at Tidy Tails now?
Tidy Tails has grown into a boutique grooming hub with several independent groomers working in our space. Each groomer manages their own schedule, availability, and grooming style. This means you may see different professionals throughout the studio depending on who’s available when you book.
Will I have the same groomer each time?
Yes — if your schedules align. You’re welcome to continue with the same groomer as long as your appointment needs and their availability match. You can also switch groomers if you’re looking for a particular style, personality fit, or appointment time.
Why does my groomer message me directly instead of the shop?
Tidy Tails handles the initial inquiry and matches you with the groomer who best fits your dog’s needs. Once your appointment is confirmed, your groomer receives your information and will contact you directly for all communication going forward.
If a groomer brings in their own clients through their own channels, they already communicate with those clients directly.
If you ever need help reaching your groomer, Tidy Tails is here to assist. Are prices the same with every groomer?
Pricing may vary slightly between groomers depending on their experience, timing, and grooming approach. Most groomers follow the general Tidy Tails pricing structure for consistency, but each groomer is free to set their own rates. Your groomer will always communicate pricing clearly before or during your appointment.
Is Tidy Tails still run by the same owners?
Yes — the studio is still owned and managed by the same people. Our grooming structure changed, but the studio itself, our environment, and our dog-centered philosophy remain the same. The groomers who work inside the studio operate independently, and Tidy Tails continues to oversee the environment, not the grooming services.
Forms & Booking Flow
Do I need to fill out a form every time I book?
No — just when your groomer requests it or when we need updated information (for example: behavior changes, health updates, or switching groomers).
Are the forms mandatory?
Yes. Forms help keep your dog safe and give your groomer the information they need to work confidently and comfortably with your dog.
Free Roam & Safety
What does “free roam” mean at Tidy Tails?
Dogs in our studio can relax, move around, and settle where they’re most comfortable. We supervise closely and adjust the setup for each dog — from social butterflies to quiet observers.
Is free roam safe for anxious or shy dogs?
Yes. Free roam doesn’t mean forced socializing. Many anxious or shy dogs settle well when they’re allowed to observe quietly, stay close to their groomer, or choose their own comfortable spot. We always follow your dog’s comfort level.
Is free roam safe for reactive dogs?
Many reactive dogs do well here, but it depends on the dog. For safety, reactive dogs are always separated from the group — either in a quiet room or a designated space — so they can relax without triggers. Your groomer will choose the setup that keeps everyone safe and comfortable.
Does my dog have to socialize with the other dogs?
No — never. Dogs can socialize if they want to, but it’s not required. If your dog prefers space or you know they do best alone, we’ll keep them separate. Most groomers work one-on-one and start-to-finish, so your dog spends their appointment with their groomer rather than with other dogs.
Can my dog be crated or separated if needed?
Yes. We don’t use closed kennels, but we have open kennels and separate rooms for dogs who need extra structure or quiet time. This is offered case-by-case and only if it helps your dog feel secure.
Why is the front door locked when I arrive?
For safety. If an independent groomer is working outside regular public hours, the door stays locked to prevent accidental door-darts and protect roaming dogs inside. Groomers must follow this safety requirement when working outside public hours, and they’ll greet you as soon as they’re ready.
Are dogs supervised at all times?
Yes. Groomers work in a start-to-finish style, and dogs are always in view or within the groomer’s working area. If separation is needed, dogs are set up safely and checked on continuously.
Client Experience & Common Confusions
Why did my dog’s groom take longer or shorter than before?
Each groomer works independently and has their own pace, style, and workflow. Differences in grooming times are normal and depend on the dog’s coat, behavior, and the groomer’s approach.
Why did I get a different price than last time?
Prices vary between groomers based on their timing, experience, and grooming style. All pricing is communicated directly by your groomer.
Why does each groomer have slightly different grooming styles?
Every groomer has their own techniques and artistic style — which is part of the beauty of a multi-groomer studio. If you’d like to switch groomers to match a certain look, you’re always welcome to do so. Many clients try different groomers until they find the perfect fit.
Can I switch groomers if mine is away?
Yes — you’re welcome to book with a different groomer if yours is away. It’s always helpful to let your groomer know, but you’re free to switch based on availability, comfort, or preference. ICs understand this and are completely comfortable with clients trying different groomers within the studio.
If I don’t like my groomer, can I change?
Of course. Your comfort matters. You’re welcome to try a different groomer whose style, approach, or availability fits better with your dog’s needs.
New Dogs, Puppies & Behaviour
Do you take puppies?
Yes! We love introducing puppies to grooming early. For puppies, we recommend monthly visits for the first year to help them build confidence, familiarity, and a positive relationship with grooming. Our groomers follow this approach to support long-term success.
Do you take dogs who have never been groomed before?
Yes — we just ask for honesty about your dog’s history. First-time dogs may need extra time, slow introductions, or a simplified groom depending on their comfort level. We always adjust the process gently.
What if my dog is nervous about grooming?
We take a calm, low-pressure approach. Your groomer will adjust their pace based on your dog’s comfort and may use breaks, quiet spaces, or separation areas as needed.
Do you take reactive dogs?
Yes — case-by-case. All groomers are willing to give reactive dogs a chance, and honesty about your dog’s triggers helps us set them up safely. Reactive dogs are always separated from the group, and we may recommend a groomer with specific experience to help your dog stay calm.
Can you help me choose the right groomer for my dog’s personality?
Absolutely. If you’re unsure where to start, we can suggest groomers whose style, pace, and handling approach may suit your dog best.
